Cloud Hosting Description

What is cloud hosting really? The word 'cloud' seems to be quite fashionable in today's computing, Internet and hosting terms. Still, only a few actually are familiar with what cloud hosting is. Perhaps it is a fine idea to educate yourself about cloud hosting services. To render a very lengthy tale short, we will firstly disclose to you what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Limited to a Remote File Storage Only.

1. Providing a remote disk storage solution, which comprises one disk storage device for all customers, does not transform any given web hosting distributor into a real cloud hosting corporation.

The cPanel web hosting firms call the ability to supply remote data storage services a cloud hosting service. So far there is nothing wrong with the cloud labeling, but... we are talking about website hosting services, not remote data storage services for personal or business needs. There's invariably one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to name a shared web hosting service, driven by a one-single-server web hosting platform, just like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. This is so because the other parts of the entire web hosting platform must be operating in precisely the same manner - this does not apply only to the remote data storage. The rest of the services entailed in the entire web hosting process also need to be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's extremely problematical. Very few hosting service providers can actually do it.

2. It Involves Domain Names, Mail Accounts, Databases, FTPs, Hosting CPs, etc.

Cloud hosting is not limited to a remote data storage solely. We are talking about a hosting solution, serving lots of domain names, web pages, email mailbox accounts, and so on, right?

To call a web hosting service a "cloud hosting" one needs a lot more than delivering simply remote disk storage mounts (or perhaps physical servers). The mail server(s) need to be dedicated just to the email related services. Doing nothing else than these concrete tasks. There might be just one or perhaps an entire array of email servers, determined by the overall server load generated. To have an authentic cloud hosting solution, the remote database servers should be performing as one, regardless of their real number. Performing nothing else. The same goes for the users' web hosting CPs, the FTP, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Name Servers (DNSs) too.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a genuine cloud hosting supplier will support numerous data center facility locations on different continents.

Here's an illustration of a DNS of an authentic cloud hosting accounts provider:

dns1.sitesalwaysup.com

dns2.sitesalwaysup.com

If such a DNS is offered by your web hosting accounts provider, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud web hosting platform in use, but you can absolutely be convinced when you see a DNS like the one beneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting service. This sort of Domain Name Server plainly indicates that the web hosting platform in use is one-server based. Perhaps it's cPanel. cPanel is a single-server hosting solution and has a market share of more than ninety eight percent. In cPanel's case, a single server handles all hosting services (web, email, DNS, databases, File Transfer Protocol, web hosting CP(s), web files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Warped Explanation of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting solution is not confined simply to a remote data storage solution, as lots of web hosting companies wish it was. Unluckily for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file web hosting firms would have been classified as cloud hosting ones a long time back! They are not referred to as such, because they merely distribute file web hosting solutions, not cloud hosting solutions. The file hosting platform seems really quite simple, in comparison with the web hosting platform. The remote file storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, since it's just one small fraction of the whole cloud hosting platform. There's a lot more to be found in the cloud web hosting platform: the hosting Control Panel cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the Domain Name Server cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the electronic mail cloud and... in the near future, possibly a number of new clouds we presently don't know about will surface out of nowhere.
